Lincoln City’s Central Multi Storey Car Park (MSCP), with six-levels housing 1001 spaces, was under the spotlight earlier this year, when it was entered into the category for Best New Car Park in the British Car Park Awards 2019. This site-specific award recognises outstanding car park design.
Lincoln city centre was transformed in 2018 thanks to the completion of the new bus station, the new multi-storey car park and the changes to the forecourt of the city’s train station.
With Lincoln’s Central Car Park winning Best New Car Park this was another accolade for this high profile project. In 2018 John Roberts Architects landed Civil Engineering Project of the Year 2018 at the East Midlands Celebrating Construction Awards. The bus station has also become the only bus station in the east of England to be awarded the Safer Bus Station Award. Then in 2019 Willmott Dixon won the top accolade in the Infrastructure category at the East Midlands RICS Awards for the £30 million Lincoln Transportation HUB.
The entire project was about collaboration at an early stage with initial discussions starting in 2014 across the contracts and design teams. The facades of the MSCP needed to look modern, streamlined and built to last using environmentally friendly materials. With a combination of materials used like Decorative Mesh and Perforated Rainscreen Panels through to uniquely coloured Solar Shading Aerofoil profiles the effect was striking and hence has attracted a lot of interest at a local, regional and national level.
